Paris' Criminal Court: Adjani's Two-Year Sentence for Tax Fraud

Iconic French actress, Isabelle Adjani, (68 years old) has been handed a two-year sentence with probation by Paris' Criminal Court. The actress was convicted of tax evasion and money laundering charges. She also received a €250,000 fine.

Adjani's downfall began with allegations of irregular financial activities, including moving her residence to Portugal on paper in 2016 and 2017 to bypass French income taxes. The allegations further included claiming a €2-million gift as a loan and receiving €120,000 from an offshore company, funneled into an undeclared US account.

In an October 2022 interview with the magazine "L'Obs," Adjani addressed her financial situation, stating, "I'm not an American-style star." She acknowledged her irregular work schedule and social commitments. She also emphasized her modest lifestyle, often living in apartments and not large villas with pools, contradicting common perceptions.

Adjani was born in France in 1955 to an Algerian father and a German mother. Her illustrious career, which spanned half a century, brought her numerous accolades, including Academy Award nominations for her roles in "Queen Margot" (1994) and "The Story of Adele H." (2008).
