Will Thomas Tuchel, England's New Gaffer, Belt Out the Anthem?

- Is Thomas Tuchel joining in for the national anthem?
After being named England's new boss last October, Thomas Tuchel, the 51-year-old ex-Bayern coach, is about to take the hot seat. On March 21, the man's first game kicks off - a World Cup qualifier against Albania. The English media can't help but buzz with questions ahead of time, one of them being whether Tuchel, the third foreign manager for The Three Lions, will croon the legendary anthem "God Save the King." During a recent presser, Tuchel dropped a bombshell about this very topic.
Tuchel's Take on the National Anthem
Instead of a straightforward "Yes" or "No," the bloke told "The Standard" that England's anthem is a "powerful, emotional, and meaningful" national hymn. While he's thrilled to lead the English squad, he can't help but feel that the anthem is too significant to be casually crooned.
To put it another way, he admitted that he needs to prove himself worthy of belting it out.
The Performance-Driven German Coach
Rather than singing the anthem at his initial appearances, Tuchel intends to "earn the right" to vocalize it. It's all about showing results and winning over the hearts of the English fans first[1][2]. This approach is a stark contrast to his previous foreign counterparts. The late Sven-Göran Eriksson, who tragically passed away due to cancer in 2024, admitted he never truly mastered the anthem and still sang along during his stint as England's boss. Italian Fabio Capello, however, opted not to sing at all[3].
