Europe's Spectacle Spectacle: "Ich komme" Stirs Controversy – Finland's ESC Entry Under Scrutiny

Controversy Arises Over the Sexual Nature of the Finnish Eurovision Song Contest Entry 'I'm Coming' - Is the track "I'm Approaching" Overly Sensual?
Finland's ESC contender, Erika Vikman, is stirring up quite the commotion, thanks to her racy stage performance of "Ich komme". Talking about her public spectacle, the 32-year-old bombshell elaborated to the Finnish media, "It's not only about the costume or the song's implications, but it's about everything - my movements, the outfit, and the song's content." The Eurovision Song Contest, organized by the European Broadcasting Union EBU, takes place in Basel mid-May. "Apparently, the EBU finds it too racy and demands I cover up the goods," she added.
Pole Dance, Anyone?
The Finnish ESC administrator Anssi Autio merely offered vague comments regarding the issue. Backroom discussions are reported, but no specific demands have been made yet.
Vikman won the national competition with her saucy act in February, sporting a skimpy fetish look. Her performance featured loud electronic music, a shiny black leather corset, matching pants, and even using the microphone stand as a pole dance pole. The song oscillates between steamy lyrics and a dash of naughty innuendoes. The Finnish lyrics, contrasted with the ambiguous, German chorus refrain "Ich komme" (I come), adds a dash of mystique.
Erika Vikman Abbreviates Her Indiscretion
In a diplomatic statement on Thursday evening, Vikman seemed to walk back her initial comments, stating, "It's normal for an ESC act to collaborate with the EBU. They suggested that the show might not mesh with the ESC stage, and we need to tone it down. My costume was also on their radar." The situation remains fluid, with negotiations still ongoing. "There will definitely be some tweaks, and I actually decided on a different costume before the EBU chime in," she added.
The controversy started barely a month ago when Malta's ESC entry came under fire due to the title "Kant" having a striking resemblance to the English term "cunt", a vulgar slang for the female genitalia. The Eurovision Song Contest is happening this year from May 13 to 17 in the Swiss city of Basel.
