In an ambitious bid to elevate the reality TV scandal of "Vanderpump Rules," Lena Dunham, creator of the hit series "Girls," proposed a full-length film project inspired by the "Scandoval" drama. The proposed film, intended to be a serious, Shakespearean-style "mini movie," would have seen Andrew Scott and Jennifer Lawrence portraying Ariana Madix and Tom Sandoval, respectively.

Dunham reached out to Andy Cohen, the show's executive producer, to pitch her idea. However, Cohen did not approve the proposal. The project, despite its highbrow aspirations, never moved beyond the pitch stage.

Andy Cohen conducted a live reading of the Scandoval film script on Sirius XM's Radio Andy, with a star-studded cast including Chloe Fineman, Sarah Sherman, Cheyenne Jackson, Leslie Grossman, Amber Tamblyn, Susan Lucci, Carson Kressley, Chrissy Teigen, Brad Goreski, and John Arthur Hill.

The reception to Dunham's pitch was mixed, with some appreciating the ambitious concept and highbrow aspirations, while others saw it as a niche idea more of an artistic re-imagination than a mainstream production. Dunham herself acknowledged this during her recounting on the "Shut Up Evan" podcast.

As of now, there is no record of the Scandoval film advancing into filming or official development. With the return of "Vanderpump Rules" for its season 12 and a new cast, it remains to be seen if the Scandoval drama will find its way onto the big screen in a different form.

Movies-and-tv enthusiasts might express interest in the never-realized project that aimed to bring the "Scandoval" drama to the big screen in a Shakespearean-style mini movie. The entertainment landscape could have been significantly altered had the ambitious proposal by Lena Dunham been approved.
