Coldplay Set to Return to South Africa in 2027

Coldplay, the British pop-rock band known for their chart-topping hits and significant influence on popular culture, may be making a long-awaited return to South Africa in 2027. The announcement comes as the band resumes their Music of the Spheres world tour, which has already become one of the biggest in music history.

The tour, which has performed to over 13 million fans across 211 shows, has generated more than R25 billion in ticket sales, making it one of the highest-grossing tours of all time. If added, it could potentially surpass Taylor Swift's Eras Tour as the highest-grossing tour ever.

The group, which includes Chris Martin, Jonny Buckland, Guy Berryman, Will Champion, and manager Phil Harvey, became the first group in Spotify history to reach 90 million monthly listeners. Coldplay, founded in 1996 at University College London, has sold over 160 million records worldwide, ranking among the best-selling music acts of all time.

Chris Martin, the frontman of Coldplay, confirmed that the tour will resume in 2027 with 138 additional shows planned. Martin's mention of southern Africa has raised hopes among local fans that South Africa could be included in the tour.

Coldplay last performed in South Africa in 2011 with concerts in Cape Town and Johannesburg. The band, which initially went by the name Big Fat Noises and later Starfish before settling on Coldplay, has significantly influenced popular culture through their music, advocacy, and achievements.

However, South African fans must wait for official confirmation about the inclusion of their country in the tour. Martin's personal life has been in the spotlight recently, with news of his eight-year romance with Dakota Johnson ending in June this year.

Regardless, signs suggest a Coldplay return to South Africa may be on the horizon, much to the delight of fans who have been eagerly awaiting the band's return.
