Is a Batman Epic Necessary in the DC Universe?

The DC Universe, a realm filled with stars, power, and wonder, is expanding in exciting directions. James Gunn, the visionary behind the successful Superman project management, has announced plans to further explore the Superman corner of the universe with a grand series he's calling the Superman Saga.

In a separate corner of the DCU, the Batman saga is also gearing up for action. The first project in this realm is a body horror film featuring the shape-shifting villain, Clayface. Other projects include an animated movie, Dynamic Duo, featuring Dick Grayson and Jason Todd, and a Deathstroke and Bane film.

A Nightwing led story, a project long-awaited by fans, has been in developmental limbo for several years. The planned release date of "LEGO Batman: Legacy of the Dark Knight," part of the Batman saga, is set for 2026. This announcement was made at Gamescom on August 20, 2025.

The Batman film will see Batman and Robin (Damien Wayne) joining forces to combat a threat. Meanwhile, Supergirl is set to be the next release in the Superman corner of the DCU.

James Gunn's Superman project management has set a strong foundation for future Superman stories, and the refreshed and original version of Superman approaching theaters is generating high anticipation among fans and audiences.

The success of Superman in the DCU may bring increased pressure for other characters, such as Batman. To cater to this, a series revolving around the Court of Owls could offer a cerebral, political thriller, crime series. An epic story in the Batman universe could also be a series following Ra's al Ghul over the centuries.

Horror fans might look forward to a movie starring Scarecrow, offering diverse storytelling to the DCU. However, it's important to note that James Gunn has not yet declared a clear centre for the DCU.

With its diverse and versatile stories, the DCU has a bright and hopeful future ahead. The universe, which started with a Superman project management, is setting up a strong foundation for future Superman projects and promising a thrilling journey for fans of all genres.
