FC St. Pauli Dealing with Injuries Ahead of VfB Stuttgart Clash

FC St. Pauli is set to face VfB Stuttgart on Friday, but the team will be without several key players due to injuries. Striker Abdoulie Ceesay and midfielder Jackson Irvine will both miss the game due to foot injuries.

Irvine, who has been out for around five months due to a foot stress reaction and subsequent operation, is currently experiencing muscular issues and will not be fit to play in the away game. Ceesay, on the other hand, has a large cut on his foot and will also be sidelined.

Coach Alexander Blessin reported that Irvine's muscles are acting up, while Ceesay will not recover in time for the match. Blessin will also be without David Nemeth and Ricky-Jade Jones for the game, as both players are out due to long-term injuries.

There is some positive news for St. Pauli, however, as striker Andréas Hountondji returned to team training on Wednesday after dealing with muscular issues. Hountondji had to cut training short on Tuesday due to the same problem, but he is expected to be back in the starting lineup on Friday.

Hountondji has had an impressive start to the season, scoring three goals for St. Pauli. However, he was substituted at halftime in the team's last match against FC Augsburg due to fatigue after international duty with Benin. Blessin reported that Hountondji had muscular problems after his international trip.

Karol Mets, the center-back, has also been dealing with muscular issues after returning from a patellar tendon operation. Mets is on a good path to recovery, but he won't be available for the game against VfB Stuttgart.

The good news is that Ceesay is expected to return for the next home game against Bayer Leverkusen on September 27. The team will be hoping that Hountondji and Mets will also be fit to play by then, as they look to climb up the Bundesliga table.
