In the heart of New York City, on the 31st of March, 1943, the setting for the new film Blue Moon is Sardi's Restaurant. This comedy-drama, directed by Richard Linklater, offers a captivating portrayal of the legendary lyricist Lorenz Hart (played by Ethan Hawke) as he navigates his declining self-confidence and personal struggles during the opening night of his former collaborator Richard Rodgers' hit musical Oklahoma!.

The film unfolds in almost real-time at Sardi's bar, providing a backdrop for Hart's introspective reflections on friendship, art, and love amidst a world transformed by war. The narrative is dense and lyrical, mirroring the script of the film itself.

Throughout the evening, Hart grapples with his fading fame and complex emotions, surrounded by a cast of writers, actors, musicians, and friends. Among them is a young woman named Elizabeth Weiland, portrayed by Margaret Qualley, who offers solace and support during Hart's confessionals.

Blue Moon was filmed last summer in Ireland, produced in association with Wild Atlantic Pictures. The film had its world premiere at the Berlin International Film Festival in February, where Dublin actor Andrew Scott won the Best Supporting Actor award for his portrayal of Richard Rodgers.

The musical Oklahoma! marks Rodgers' first collaboration with Oscar Hammerstein II, who replaced Lorenz Hart. The upcoming film is scheduled for release in Ireland on the 14th of November.

With its poignant exploration of the pains of creative partnership and personal decline, Blue Moon serves as a testament to the enduring power of music and the human spirit. The evocative playing of the song "Blue Moon" adds a hauntingly beautiful layer to the narrative.
