Where will this battle lead—to a devastating war in the Middle East, as many have long feared?
Andreas Reinicke: We're still unsure. Initial statements by the Israelis to destroy Iran's nuclear arsenal have now expanded. In a secondary wave, Iran's energy supply facilities were targeted, including power plants, gas production sites, and more. Netanyahu has announced further escalation, aiming at the regime's leadership. It's clear that the objective is to bring about a regime change, going beyond the initial assaults on the nuclear program.

This sentiment is echoed in Prime Minister Netanyahu's speech to the Iranian people, encouraging them to resist the Mullah regime. Could this eventually culminate in the regime change that Netanyahu and others hope for? The U.S. or even Saudi Arabia might welcome such an outcome.
No, I don't think so. Firstly, I believe the situation is moving towards regime change, but it bears little resemblance to Lebanon and Syria. In Lebanon, Israel eradicated Hezbollah and assassinated spiritual leader Nasrallah. However, there was a stable and functioning Lebanese government in place. In Syria, Assad was ousted, leaving a viable alternative in Shara.

Additional Coverage in IranIt's not the case that there's a unified, alternative leader, but rather many unified groups. This doesn't necessarily mean that a new regime will immediately assume power, and the risk of the country fragmenting is high.
This is a significant risk, particularly regarding the nuclear program. Although it may no longer be feasible to manufacture nuclear weapons, there remains uranium—even enriched uranium. The danger lies in individual factions gaining control of this material and potentially deploying "dirty bombs" somewhere in the world, causing nuclear or radioactive pollution.
