Thousands are on the move. Amidst Israeli military strikes, Iranians are leaving their homeland in search of safety. Germany anticipates an influx of more Iranian asylum seekers in the coming weeks than ever before.
The SPD has raised a red flag, cautious of Iran's Mullah regime potentially exploiting this situation for their gain. "With people seeking protection in Germany, we must also prioritize our security, particularly for male refugees," insists Sebastian Fiedler, the SPD's interior policy spokesman in the Bundestag, in stern. He asserts, "We cannot let the Iranian regime, namely the Revolutionary Guards, seize the opportunity posed by the refugees to bring their own operatives into the country."
Fiedler also criticized the Greens' call for a ban on deportations for Iranian asylum seekers residing in Germany. "Last year, only 14 individuals were deported from Germany to Iran; in the first quarter of this year, there were five," said Fiedler. "Each situation is carefully evaluated to ascertain if the individuals face grave dangers, such as death or torture, in their homeland." He suggests it's presently challenging to deport to Iran.
Iran: Greens Urge Instant Deportation Ban
Filiz Polat, the parliamentary managing director of the Greens, demanded an "immediate nationwide ban on deportations to Iran". "Individuals who have fled to us must be safeguarded from death or persecution and cannot be deported to a dictatorship and war zone," Polat told the "taz".
