Amidst the wave of Israeli military strikes, a growing number of Iranians are seeking refuge. Germany expects a surge of Iranian refugees in the coming weeks.
The Social Democratic Party (SPD), through SPD's interior policy spokesman in the Bundestag, Sebastian Fiedler, sounds the alarm. Fiedler suspects that the Mullah regime in Tehran could exploit this refugee influx. In an interview with Stern, he advises, "We must not let the Iranian regime, specifically the Revolutionary Guards, covertly introduce their operatives among our refugee population."
Fiedler further criticized the Greens' call for a ban on deportations for Iranian refugees in Germany. According to Fiedler, only 14 people were deported from Germany to Iran last year, with just five such cases recorded in the first quarter of this year. In every individual case, authorities assess whether the refugees risk grave dangers, such as death or torture, in their home country. He admitted that, given the current political climate, deporting to Iran is currently quite challenging.
Greens Call for an Immediate Deportation Ban to Iran
Filiz Polat, parliamentary managing director of the Greens, demanded an "immediate nationwide ban on deportations to Iran." She stated, "Refugees who have sought shelter with us must be protected from death or persecution and should not be deported to a dictatorship and war zone."

The SPD's warning signifies broader concerns shared among European nations about potential covert operations by the Iranian regime. There are suspicions that the regime aims to exploit the chaotic situation of refugees to infiltrate Western countries, sometimes through organized crime or by involving individuals unaware of their handlers’ true affiliations. This practice has reportedly been a concern not only in Germany but also in France, where intelligence services are closely monitoring suspects linked to Iran.
- The SPD's call to be vigilant against potential Mullah agents among refugees underscores the concern of infiltration not only in Germany but also in other European countries.
- The policy-and-legislation led by the SPD to scrutinize the refugee population more closely highlights the need for employment policy to address this security concern.
- The war-and-conflicts in Iran and subsequent refugee influx have brought to light the politics involved in the protection and treatment of refugees in Germany, with the SPD advocating for careful consideration in deportation decisions for the safety of both the refugees and the community.
