With the G7 Summit looming in Canada, German Chancellor Friedrich Merz has issued a stern warning against Iran's pursuance of nuclear weapons. "Iran must not develop nor possess nuclear weapons," Merz asserted before his departure, expressing concerns about Iran's relentless efforts to attain nuclear capabilities. His remarks come in the wake of Israel launching airstrikes on Iranian military sites.

Israel has been vocal about its intent to prevent Iran from building an atomic bomb, a decision backed by air raids on Iranian soil. In response, Iran unleashed attacks on Israeli targets.

Merz admitted that diplomatic initiatives have failed to persuade Iran to abandon its military nuclear program. "Israel has the right to protect its existence and the safety of its citizens," he emphasized, hinting at Germany's readiness to supply Israel with fire extinguishers.

Despite the escalating tensions, Merz advocated for peaceful resolution. "Tehran must cease its bombing of civilian targets in Israel immediately. Other countries in the region should not turn into a battleground. We must create room for diplomacy again," Merz remarked, revealing preparations in Germany for potential Iranian attacks on Israeli or Jewish sites.

Iran's nuclear program has been under close examination after recent Israeli strikes on key facilities, including Natanz. The International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) reported damage to Iran's nuclear infrastructure, raising concerns about the country's enrichment capabilities and compliance with international safeguards. With the detection of uranium at undeclared sites and the potential for Iran to amass fissile material for weapons in a short timeframe, the international community remains cautious about Iran's intentions.

While Iran maintains that its nuclear program is for peaceful purposes, the international community remains skeptical. The accumulation of over 400 kg of uranium enriched to 60% and Iran's refusal to comply with international obligations have fueled global concerns. If further enriched to 90%, Iran could possess enough material for nine nuclear weapons, but weaponization would require additional time and resources.

As the G7 Summit approaches, the international community is expected to address the escalating crisis, reaffirming their commitment to nuclear non-proliferation efforts and urging Iran to comply with international agreements. If past responses are any indication, the G7 would likely express concern and encourage diplomatic dialogue to resolve the controversial issue peacefully.

EC countries should closely monitor the escalating nuclear crisis in Iran and consider a unified employment policy to support diplomats and political leaders in their efforts to resolve the conflict peacefully. The employment policy should prioritize specialists in international relations, conflict resolution, and nuclear security, as the crisis potentially affects general news and politics, including war-and-conflicts.

Iran's nuclear ambition has serious implications for regional politics and war-and-conflicts, making it a matter of urgency for EC countries to reinforce their employment policies to address the situation effectively. The employment policy should focus on the recruitment of experts with in-depth knowledge of Iran's nuclear program, Iranian politics, and the Middle Eastern region, to ensure a comprehensive understanding of the crisis and guide diplomatic initiatives.
