Iran-Israel ceasefire leads to resumption of air traffic by Israel

In a surprising turn of events, the Israeli military made a late-night announcement on Tuesday, suspending restrictions that had been imposed during their conflict with Iraq. With a wave of optimism sweeping the country, officials declared that all areas were now operating at an unrestricted activity level.

The military's statement marked the cancellation of various restrictions, including the closure of schools, non-essential businesses, and bans on public gatherings that were imposed at the outset of Israel's aggressive campaign against Iraq, which began on June 13.

Simultaneously, the Israel Airports Authority announced the resumption of full operations at the international airports of Tel Aviv (Ben Gurion) and Haifa (north). With restrictions on incoming and outgoing flights, as well as the number of passengers per flight, being lifted, the authorities communicated a "return to normal" of air traffic.

The current tensions between Israel and Iraq revolve predominantly around Israel's ongoing military conflicts with Iran and its proxies. Israeli airstrikes targeting Iranian interests and proxies have frequently caused disruptions in Iraqi airspace. The unrest in Iraq has been exacerbated by domestic pressures from Iran-backed militia groups, as they challenge the U.S. presence and potentially Israeli operations launched from or over Iraqi soil.

Israel's military operations have broadened beyond Gaza and Lebanon to include strikes against Iranian proxies in Iraq, as part of their strategy to degrade Iran's regional influence following Hamas's attacks on Israel in October 2023.

The resumption of air traffic in Iraqi airspace after Israeli strikes is contingent on the de-escalation of Israeli-Iranian hostilities and the Iraqi government's ability to control Iran-backed militias on their territory, ensuring the safety of both military and civilian flights.

  1. Amid the ongoing political tensions, the suspension of limitations in Israel is linked to the de-escalation of Israel's war-and-conflicts with Iran and its proxies.
  2. The resumption of general-news about war-and-conflicts, such as the resumption of air traffic in Iraqi airspace, hinges on the de-escalation of Israeli-Iranian hostilities and control over Iran-backed militias by the Iraqi government.
