Heightened Tension: Iran Confirms Death of Two More Generals
Iran confirms the demise of two additional high-ranking military officials
After eight top Iranian military leaders were reported dead due to Israel's large-scale attack on Iranian military facilities, the Iranian media has announced the fatalities of two more generals, Gholamresa Mehrabi and Mehdi Rabani.
Mehrabi, the deputy chief of intelligence in the General Staff, and Rabani, the deputy chief of operations, were both part of the Iranian Armed Forces' senior team.
The initial casualties included the Chief of General Staff, Major General Mohammed Bagheri, and Major General Hussein Salami, the commander of the powerful Revolutionary Guards, who was killed in an attack on the headquarters of the Revolutionary Guards' supreme command.
The Conflict Intensifies
Israel began its attack on military targets in Iran on Friday morning, targeting facilities not only in Tehran but also in the central province of Isfahan and other locations across the country. The attacks were meant to hinder Iran's nuclear program, military facilities, and high-ranking military personnel, according to Israeli statements.
In response, Iran retaliated with several waves of ballistic missiles against Israel. The Israeli air defenses, along with some U.S. THAAD systems, managed to intercept the majority of the Iranian missiles, resulting in injuries to at least 35 people in Israel.
Israel's Motivation and Iran's Future Response
Israel justified the "preemptive strike" against Iran as a means to prevent Iran from reaching an "irreversible point" in its nuclear program. While Iran has vowed a "painful" response, Israel has indicated that its campaign will continue in the coming days. The situation remains tense, with both sides preparing for potential further escalation.
