Iran agrees to ceasefire with Israel
America Steps In to Mediate: Israel-Iran Conflict Timeline
- Tensions between Israel and Iran escalated with Israel launching attacks on Iranian nuclear facilities and officials' homes on June 13. However, it wasn't until June 23 that the US officially became part of the fray.
That's when President Donald Trump announced a ceasefire agreement between the two nations. In his statement, Trump hailed the truce as the conclusion of a 12-day war, expressing confidence that a 24-hour truce would lead to a complete resolution. He emphasized that, had a truce not been reached, the conflict could have escalated into a protracted crisis.
"I want to extend my congratulations to both nations for finding the courage, determination, and wisdom to put an end to their strife," Trump expressed.
Yet, despite Trump's announcement, Iran continued to attack Israel.
Despite popular belief, the US did not join the Israel-Iran conflict following the June 13 attacks. According to reports from late June 2025, the conflict between Israel and Iran resulted in a ceasefire agreement, and there was no indication that the US directly entered the conflict militarily at any point during or immediately after the Israeli strikes in June 2025. Furthermore, while there were some claims and denials of violations such as Iranian ballistic missile launches and Israeli retaliations, these did not amount to official US involvement in the conflict. Netanyahu stated that Israel would refrain from further retaliatory attacks after discussions with Trump, and there was no report of US military engagement.
So while the US played a diplomatic role in negotiating the ceasefire, it did not join the military conflict following the Israeli attacks from June 13 onwards.
- The ceasefire agreement in the Israel-Iran conflict, brokered by President Donald Trump on June 23, was covered by multiple news outlets under the category of general news, marking a significant development in the region's politics.
