IPOB Declares No Involvement in Okigwe Road Incident; Criticizes Amnesty International

Taking a Stand: IPOB Denies Involvement in Okigwe Road Attack Amidst Claims by Amnesty International

In a stark response, the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) has flatly denied allegations linking them to the gunmen attack on civilians at Okigwe road in Imo State. This rejection comes following accusations from Amnesty International Nigeria, which has questioned IPOB's innocence in the matter.

IPOB, through its Media and Publicity Secretary, Emma Powerful, fired back against Amnesty International, branding the human rights organization as one that has lost credibility. IPOB accused Amnesty International of colluding with the Nigerian federal government, claiming they are no longer the serious human rights group they once were.

IPOB expressed concern over Amnesty International's alliance with blackmailers, alleging the human rights group against IPOB and the Eastern Security Network (ESN). The group's statement read, "We denounce all forms of media extortion aimed at IPOB and ESN, especially from Amnesty International Nigeria, for alleging and highlighting IPOB and ESN as offenders in those crimes."

The pro-Biafra group condemned numerous violent attacks on civilians in the South East region, stating that the Nigerian government has been funding these acts since 2021, using certain media outlets and fake rights groups to pin the blame on IPOB and ESN to evade investigations. A notable instance was the Owerri prison escape, which went on unchecked for over four hours despite a heavy concentration of security forces in the area.

IPOB refuted all accusations from the Nigerian government and Amnesty International, requesting independent investigative bodies to scrutinize the alleged offenses, as they claim the government and its security forces have never conducted any thorough inquiry before accusing IPOB.
