IPL 2025 Code of Conduct Transgressions: Hardik Pandya and Ashish Nehra Given Fines
The Scoop on Sluggish Overrates in IPL 2025:
Get the lowdown on the players who've faced penalties for slower-than-expected over rates during the thrilling 2025 Indian Premier League!
Remember Clause 12.6 of the 2025 IPL Playing Conditions? These bad boys deal with over rates. Teams need to knock off 14.11 overs per hour, y'all. In uninterrupted games, the 20th over should wrap up within 90 minutes of the starting innings, according to the clause. For interrupted matches, there's a reduction in time for every extra over missed.
Violate these stipulations, and your team's reward? Losing the extra fielder outside the 30-yard circle. First offense? The ol' captain is fined a hefty 12 lakh INR. If the squad captain isn't part of the playing XI or the Impact Player, designation captain takes the hit. The second offense doubles the fine, and teammates are fined 6 lakh or 25% of their match fee, whichever is lower.
Used to see suspensions for overrate offenses? Not anymore, IPL 2025 style!
Let's take a gander at the guilty parties:
Match 9 - Hardik Pandya (Mumbai Indians): You know Mumbai's games? They move slower than a snail on Valium in Ahmedabad against the Gujarat Titans. Pandya's their captain, first-time offender in IPL 2025, so he forks over a cool 12 lakh INR.
Match 11 - Riyan Parag (Rajasthan Royals): They were slower than an arthritic tortoise in their Guwahati home game against the Chennai Super Kings. Captain Samson wasn't their designated skipper for the game, so Riyan found himself in hot water and slapped with a 12 lakh INR fine.
Match 16 - Rishabh Pant (Lucknow Super Giants): Maintained a slow over rate in their home win over Mumbai Indians? Captain Pant paid theprice with a 12 lakh INR fine.
Match 21 - Rajat Patidar (Royal Challengers Bengaluru): In their win against Mumbai Indians? Slower than a camel crossing the Sahara. Patidar, their captain, faced a 12 lakhs hit to his wallet.
Match 23 - Sanju Samson (Rajasthan Royals): Another slow piece of work against Gujarat Titans at Ahmedabad? Captain Samson's second offence this season meant a 24 lakh INR fine. The rest of the team didn't escape, either - they forked out either 6 lakh or 25% of their match fees, whichever is lower.
Match 29 - Axar Patel (Delhi Capitals): Slugging through their home match against MI at Delhi? Patel took a 12 lakh INR penalty for his first over-rate offense this season.
Match 35 - Shubman Gill (Gujarat Titans): Fell behind on their over rate in their home game against DC? Gill's first offense this season resulted in a 12 lakh INR fine.
Match 49 - Shreyas Iyer (Punjab Kings): Maintained a slow over rate in their away game against CSK at Chepauk? Captain Iyer paid a 12 lakh INR penalty.
Match 56 - Hardik Pandya (Mumbai Indians): Moving slower than molasses in their home game against GT at Wankhede? Pandya faced a 24 lakh INR fine (second offense) and the rest of the MI XI paid either 6 lakh or 25% of their match fees, whichever is lower.
Match 56 - Ashish Nehra (Gujarat Titans): During the same match, GT head coach Nehra was fined 25% of his match fee and a demerit point after a Level 1 offence under Article 2.20 (conduct that's contrary to the spirit of the game). He owned up to it.
Code of Conduct Breaches: The Whole Shebang
Match 13 - Digvesh Singh Rathi (Lucknow Super Giants): A 25% match fee fine, plus a demerit point for a Level 1 offense under Article 2.5 relating to "language, actions, or gestures that disparage or could provoke an aggressive reaction from another player during the game." Digvesh celebrated with a notebook-signing mimicry after dismissing a Punjab Kings batter and did it again for the second consecutive game, netting a 50% fine and extra demerit points.
