Iowa State's Jeremiah Cooper maintains to excel following his position change to cornerback

Jeremiah Cooper, a senior defensive back for Iowa State University, is gearing up for an exciting season, starting with the home opener against South Dakota on an unspecified date. The game will be broadcast on Fox and is a significant one for Cooper, as he considers it a chance for redemption after a less-than-stellar performance in the previous game against Kansas State.

Cooper, a native of El Paso, Texas, made his first career start at cornerback in the game against Kansas State last Saturday, held at Aviva Stadium. Despite a challenging matchup, he defended a pass and recorded three tackles, displaying his resilience and determination.

The upcoming game against South Dakota will test Cooper and the ISU secondary, particularly against the talented South Dakota quarterback, Aidan Bouman. Bouman, who started his college career with the Cyclones, had 19 touchdown passes to just 4 interceptions last season.

Jon Heacock, the ISU veteran defensive coordinator, has praised the young defensive players for their resolve and hard work. Cooper, who has earned all-Big 12 accolades in each of the past two seasons, is no exception. He expressed excitement about the opportunity to showcase his skills at cornerback.

In an interesting twist, Cooper will be playing for the opposing team, Kansas State, on August 23 in his home game against the FCS-ranked No. 5 South Dakota. However, he is also set to make his defense-leading 34th career start against South Dakota.

Kijohnn Cummings-Coleman and Carson Van Dinter filled Cooper's vacated spot at strong safety in the last game, and the ISU secondary will be eager to maintain their strong performance against South Dakota. The game against Kansas State on August 23 is part of Cooper's 2025 farewell tour with Iowa State, making it an even more anticipated event.

As the season unfolds, fans can expect Cooper to continue his impressive defensive play. With one interception away from cracking the Cyclones' top-10 in that category, Cooper is poised to make a significant impact on the field. The home opener against South Dakota promises to be an exciting showcase of his skills, as well as a reminder of his dedication to the game.
