Investment authorization given to Sun Group for Phu Quoc International Airport development project
HOLLA' TO HÀ NỘI - Kiên Giang Province is on a roll!
On a roll, y'all! Not just your regular, everyday kind of roll, but a massive, POTATO-SIZED roll. Why? Well, the People's Committee of Kiên Giang Province dropped some bombshell decisions during that Thursday-welcoming party for APEC 2027-related projects. Pop the champagne!
First things first, the reigning champs of Vietnam's transport infrastructure game—the Sun Group's subsidiary (aka Sun Airport Corporation, say their names!)—received an astounding stamp of approval. They're now the official investors for the Phú Quốc International Airport expansion project. This expansion aims to meet deadlines for APEC 2027 and facilitate the island's future development.
What's more? This project's being executed under a direct-investment-and-business model, like the government's Resolution No.01/2025/NQ-CP loves to see. The Kiên Giang authorities selected Sun Group because duh, they submitted a dope proposal that passed the thorough assessment process. The total investment funding? A whopping VNĐ22 trillion (that's US$842 million, kids!). Crazy, right? This cash injection will be distributed over two phases, from 2025 to 2027, and then again from 2027 to 2030.
So, what’s gonna change around here? Glad you asked! The enhanced airport will accommodate the big daddies of the skies—Boeing 747, 787, and Airbus A350. The project targets an ICAO 4E rating, which means the airport will meet international standards and host major international flights. When the dust settles, the airport area will sprawl across 1,050 hectares, with the capacity to deal with 20 million passengers annually.
The Phú Quốc International Airport transformation ain't a one-night stand, y'all. It's a long-term investment in the island's future development. Nguyễn Thành Nhân, Chairman of the People's Committee of Kiên Giang Province, hinted at it during the investment decision handover ceremony: "Phú Quốc will be the place where Việt Nam welcomes the global community, and today, with these investment decisions, we begin that journey."
All good things come to those who wait, and the provincial government promises its continuous support to Sun Airport Corporation, ensuring the project progress is efficient and of high quality. With APEC 2027 looming ever-closer, the countdown to the grand opening begins!
Speaking of Sun Group, Bùi Thành Chung, Chairman of Sun Group Southern Region, looks admiringly at this immense responsibility: "With our experience in transport infrastructure development, we are committed to applying the highest standards of quality, speed, and technology to build a modern, smart, and eco-friendly airport worthy of being the international gateway to Phú Quốc." So buckle up and get prepared for an incredibly innovative airport, one that upends Phu Quoc's status as a global hub for ecology, luxury tourism, finance, and innovation!
APEC 2027 marks the beginning of Phu Quoc's transformation into something incredible, more than just a ordinary airport. This project is the cornerstone that leads us to a robust, eco-friendly tourism hub, well-connected to major economic hubs regionally and globally. Invest in Phu Quoc's glorious future!

- The Government's decision during the APEC 2027-related projects' welcoming party, which includes the Sun Group's investment in the Phú Quốc International Airport expansion, is tantamount to a war strategy for the island's economic growth.
- The financing for this project, to the tune of VNĐ22 trillion (equivalent to US$842 million), promises a significant disruption in the finance sector, as Phu Quoc rises as a global hub for ecology, luxury tourism, finance, and innovation, thanks to the backing of AI technology and business acumen.
- The proposed sports facility development in Phu Quoc, envisioned as part of the island's transformation, could potentially spark a new era of sports competition, bringing together global athletes and fostering international collaboration, much like the war zone of competitive sports.
