Get the Scoop on Antoine Massey's Latest Antics
New Orleans (AP) - The hunt for Antoine Massey, a notorious fugitive who broke outta the Big Easy jail over three weeks ago, picked up steam again this week. The cause? Another cryptic Instagram post claiming to be from our boy Antoine himself.
The latest post, published on July 7th, shows a dude sittin' in front of a blue whip who supposedly goes by the name of "#AntoineMassey" and has the same eye-poppin' face tats.
It's unclear where and when this alleged Antoine was snapped, but an anonymous senior law enforcement officer let the Associated Press know they're playin' this one seriously. The official cautioned that they ain't authorized to discuss the flyin' circus of the facility's May 16 escape by 10 inmates.
These cons went about it like a felonious game of Simon Says. They hoisted a faulty cell door, burrowed through a cut-up hole in the wall behind the old crapper where steel bars had been sliced, and then scaled a barbed wire fence like it was beach day using blankets for protection. The jailbreak was one of the largest in recent US history.
State and local officials have been giving Orleans Parish Sheriff Susan Hutson a hard time for the shabby state of the 10-year-old $150 million joint. Hutson has mostly passed the buck, blamin' the poor infra and the inability to make required improvements at the old rickety building.
So far, eight of the escapees have been nabbed, while Massey and one other convict, Derrick Groves, conspicuously remain at large.
In this new Instagram post, the supposed Antoine professes his innocence. Massey's facing charges of kidnap, rape, domestic battery involving strangulation, and motor vehicle theft. Deputy U.S. Marshal Brian Fair doesn't mince words: "We'd encourage Mr. Massey to drop the charade and surrender himself for proper legal proceedings." Fair was unsure if Massey actually posted the pic or when it was taken.
Earlier this week, other videos supposedly starring Massey popped up on social media. Authorities snooped around a New Orleans house not too far from the jail, estimating it to be about three kilometers away, where they reckoned the videos were produced. But all they found afterwards were some of the clothes they believed he wore in the vids.
On Tuesday, Louisiana Governor Jeff Landry called on Massey and Groves to end the game of hide-and-seek and turn themselves in.
