Investigators are pursuing the whereabouts of Edward Snowden

Updated Article:

Edward Snowden, the former National Security Agency (NSA) contractor who leaked classified documents about U.S. surveillance activities, is reportedly residing in the Moscow suburbs according to recent tax data. The investigative project Sistema, the source of this information, cited Snowden's tax identification number to reveal his registration with a tax office in Ljuberzy, near Moscow.

This registration for tax purposes is typical for individuals in Russia, who are usually registered in the city where they reside. Snowden's past residence in Russia had remained a secret until these recent findings.

Back in 2013, Snowden exposed intelligence activities by the U.S. NSA and its British counterpart, GCHQ, to journalists. Upon leaving Hong Kong with the intention to seek asylum in Ecuador, he was stranded at Moscow's Sheremetyevo Airport as his passport was revoked by the U.S. government. Russia, under President Vladimir Putin, granted him asylum, and he was later granted Russian citizenship in 2022.

It's essential to note that Snowden's status as a whistleblower, informant, or defector continues to spark debate among various groups.
