Investigative exhibition and discourse titled "9/11 Santiago - Escape from Pinochet" set for Thursday at the city's museum
On Thursday, September 18, 2025, the Halle City Museum invites you to an enlightening evening. The event, in cooperation with the Friedrich-Ebert-Stiftung, will feature two exhibitions: "Coming and Going" and "9/11 Santiago - Escape from Pinochet (Children of Exile)".
The evening will begin with Dr. Maik Evers guiding a viewing opportunity of the "Coming and Going" section from the permanent exhibition on Halle (Saale)'s city history. This section focuses on immigration and emigration to and from Halle. At 6 pm, the 45-minute film shown as part of the exhibition, telling the story of the different experiences of children during the Cold War, will be screened. Notably, Rodrigo González, brother of Claudia González and a member of the band "Die Ärzte", is featured in the film.
However, no film screening or discussion is scheduled during the viewing opportunity for "Coming and Going". Dr. Maik Evers will be your guide for this part of the exhibition, leading the way before the film screening of "9/11 Santiago – Escape from Pinochet" at the Stadtmuseum Halle.
The main event of the evening will be the screening of "9/11 Santiago - Escape from Pinochet (Children of Exile)". This exhibition marks the anniversary of the military coup in Chile in 1973. Claudia González, daughter of Chilean refugees and protagonist of the film, will share her personal experiences during the coup, life in hiding, the escape from Chile, and settling and living in Germany.
Following the screening, a discussion with the filmmaker Thomas Grimm and eyewitness Claudia González will take place. The evening will be moderated by historian Dr. René Wiese.
This event is not just a screening but a unique opportunity to delve into the personal stories of those affected by historical events, providing a deeper understanding of the past and its impact on our present. The viewing opportunity for "Coming and Going" will take place between 6 pm and the start of the film.
Join us at the Halle City Museum, located at Große Markstraße 10, for an evening of insightful discussions, moving stories, and a chance to learn more about the experiences of children during the Cold War and the aftermath of the military coup in Chile. We look forward to seeing you there!
