Clarifying Climate Protest Investigations in Mannheim

Two months have passed since the chaotic climate demonstrations in Mannheim, conducted by Last Generation activists. The aftermath of these events still lingers, with investigations ongoing by both law enforcement and the public prosecutor's office.

Most recently, a police officer has come under scrutiny, accused of intentionally splashing oil intended to dissolve adhesives onto a demonstrator's head. Last Generation publicly released a video, exposing this alleged incident that took place on Konrad Adenauer Bridge on September 2.

Beyond the events at the Konrad Adenauer Bridge, there are also concerns surrounding police custody. Criticism has been made towards police conduct during body searches at the station. The authorities have announced that the investigations regarding these allegations continue, leaving them unable to provide further information at this time.

The activists involved in a sticker campaign have also faced scrutiny. Authorities have opened an investigation on suspicion of coercion. In response to this, Last Generation reported a separate incident later, where a driver allegedly assaulted several demonstrators during a march in Mannheim.

The authorities identified and arrested one suspect, but eventually released him. Proceedings against the 29-year-old have been initiated, with suspected assault as a motive. Regrettably, the authorities are unable to provide any additional information on this matter.

Among other controversies, allegations of police misconduct during arrests during climate demonstrations in Mannheim have also emerged. These claims stem from reports of climate change protests being disrupted by criminal acts. However, recent sources did not reveal any specific developments or findings concerning these concerns.
