Investigation Underway After Bus Transporting Hindu Devotees in Kashmir Suffers Attack
NEW DELHI - In a chilling turn of events, suspected militants launched a shocking attack on a bus carrying Hindu pilgrims in the heart of Indian-controlled Kashmir, resulting in the tragic loss of nine lives and injuring 33. The incident took place on Sunday in the Reasi district of Jammu province.
The ill-fated bus was making its way to the Mata Vaishno Devi temple's base camp. Post-attack, the bus plunged into a deep gorge, underscoring the turmoil of the situation.
The National Investigation Agency has taken up the case, seeking answers behind the cruel incident. Meanwhile, security forces are on a manhunt for the attackers.
The families of the deceased will receive a compensation of approximately 90 lakh Indian Rupees, while the injured will get around 5,000. Federal minister Amit Shah promises swift medical aid and asserts that the perpetrators will face justice.
A police officer hinted that the attackers could be Muslim militants resisting Indian rule in Kashmir. No group has yet acknowledged responsibility for the attack.
Rebel groups have waged a long and bloody conflict, championing Kashmir's independence or the merger with Pakistan since 1989. Most Muslim Kashmiris gravitate towards unifying the territory under Pakistani rule or as an independent nation.
New Delhi asserts that Kashmir militancy is Pakistan-backed terrorism. However, Pakistan denies these claims, viewing the struggle as a freedom fight instead. The conflict has left tens of thousands of civilians, rebels, and government forces dead.
