Investigation into the individual responsible for the murder of Charlie Kirk
In a shocking turn of events, Tyler Robinson, a 22-year-old individual, turned himself in willingly thirty-three hours after the shooting of American conservative activist Charlie Kirk on September 10, 2025.
The suspect entered Utah Valley University campus at 11:51 am local time, dressed in a black shirt with an American flag in the center, a dark baseball cap, and large sunglasses. Security surveillance footage showed an individual dressed in dark clothing on the roof at approximately 12:15 pm local time.
The Utah Valley University police officer initially believed the weapon used in the shooting was a rifle. A rifle with a scope, wrapped in a towel, was found in the woods nearby, containing one spent round and three unspent rounds. Remarkably, Tyler Robinson's DNA was discovered on the gun's trigger, the shell casing, two cartridges, and the towel.
The unspent rounds had enigmatic messages: "hey fascist catch" followed by arrow symbols believed to be a video game cheat code, "oh, Bella ciao, Bella ciao, Bella ciao, ciao, ciao", and "if you read this, you are gay, lmao".
Robinson's father, a registered Republican voter, has become "hardcore MAGA" since President Trump returned to the White House. The family, active in the Mormon church and described as very quiet and reserved, runs a kitchen company. Tyler himself is registered as a non-active voter without participation in recent presidential elections but reportedly became more political in recent years, with his parents supporting the Republican party.
However, Robinson's political views differed significantly from his father's, leading to heated discussions, particularly after the election. Robinson's mother stated that her son had recently become more politically active and leaned towards supporting gay and trans rights.
In his conversation with his roommate, Robinson admitted to being the shooter and explained that he had the shooting planned for over a week. Robinson also hinted at being the shooter when his parents reached him by phone, saying he didn't want to go to prison and was ready to take his own life.
The shooting took place during an outdoor event at Utah Valley University. Robinson later told his roommate that he would turn himself in willingly. Robinson's mother recognized the shooter on the news the day after the shooting and thought he resembled her son.
The investigation is ongoing, and more details will be released as they become available.
