Investigation into the former South Korean first lady involves questioning the head of the Unification Church

Han Hak-ja, the widow of Unification Church founder Moon Sun-myung and a representative of the religious group, is currently under investigation for allegedly instructing the church to bribe former First Lady Kim Keon Hee and veteran lawmaker Kweon Seong-dong.

The special prosecutor has been investigating the Unification Church for alleged bribery and other charges. Kim Hyong Kun, the deputy special prosecutor, stated that Han Hak-ja answered questions related to these allegations, but an arrest warrant for her has not been announced at this time.

Kweon Seong-dong, a veteran lawmaker, was detained over concerns he could destroy evidence related to the bribery case. Kim Keon Hee, the former First Lady, has been imprisoned as part of the ongoing probe. An official from the Unification Church has also been arrested and indicted on charges including violating anti-graft laws.

Han Hak-ja, who is also known as "True Mother" by her followers, declined to answer questions from reporters about the allegations against her. She has denied the accusations of bribery involving the wife of former South Korean President Yoon Suk Yeol.

The investigation into the Unification Church and its potential involvement in bribery and other illegal activities is ongoing. The founder of the church, Moon Sun-myung, is deceased and cannot be charged in relation to the current allegations.

In a statement, Kim Hyong Kun also stated that an arrest warrant for Han Hak-ja was not currently being considered. Despite this, the situation remains a topic of interest and concern for many in South Korea.
