Investigation into OB Kurzbach: SPD Local Association urges party and opposition to join forces

In the city of Solingen, efforts to clarify the ongoing investigation involving Mayor Tim Kurzbach are being spearheaded by the SPD (Social Democratic Party) and the opposition. According to Harun Suratlı, chairman of SPD Solingen Mitte, these efforts are ongoing and democratic in nature.

The division within the SPD over the handling of the investigation is evident, with some faction members urging a clear stance for transparency and accountability, while others advocate for caution, emphasising the need to await further details before taking decisive action against the mayor.

The Düsseldorf Regional Government has taken a significant step in this matter by filing a criminal complaint against Mayor Kurzbach. Vanessa Nolte, the spokesperson for the Düsseldorf Regional Government, confirmed the filing of the complaint in response to SN's inquiry. The action aligns with the guidelines of the Ministry of the Interior's anti-corruption decree.

The criminal complaint was filed with the North Rhine-Westphalia State Criminal Office. The "smuggling affair", as the investigation is known, is a complex and comprehensive probe. Harun Suratlı, in a press release on Saturday afternoon, emphasised the need for all parties to work together to clarify all questions related to the affair as soon as possible.

Harun Suratlı also highlighted the importance of transparency and honesty in maintaining trust in the city administration and its institutions. He believes that working together will help strengthen trust in Solingen's democracy. However, he also reiterated the presumption of innocence for all suspects, including Mayor Kurzbach.

Iris Preuß-Buchholz, the SPD faction leader, has made a verbal attack against the mayor. Not all SPD local branches support her stance, indicating a broader internal tension about balancing support for Kurzbach with the party's commitment to ethical governance.

The publication of an opinion commissioned by the CDU Solingen has further added to the discord in Solingen's political climate. Harun Suratlı has expressed concern about the discourse surrounding the affair, stating that it is essential for democratic parties to work together to maintain trust and integrity in the city's governance.

Despite the ongoing investigation and internal divisions, it is clear that the SPD and the opposition are committed to seeking clarity and ensuring accountability in the matter. Their efforts suggest a shared belief in the importance of upholding democratic values and maintaining public trust.

  1. The SPD and the opposition, working collaboratively, are focusing on policy-and-legislation matters in the ongoing investigation of Mayor Tim Kurzbach, aiming to ensure transparency and accountability.
  2. In the midst of politics, with ongoing discord and internal tensions, the SPD remains deeply committed to preserving general-news values of trust, integrity, and democracy, as demonstrated by their efforts in the investigation of Mayor Kurzbach.
