Investigation deepens as ex-top prosecutor is summoned for interrogation in relation to inquiry into martial law proceedings

In a developing investigation, the special counsel team has requested an arrest warrant for former Prosecutor General Shim Woo-jung in July, amidst allegations surrounding the failed martial law bid by former President Yoon Suk Yeol.

The investigation, however, does not seem to be focusing on any new allegations or evidence against Shim Woo-jung. Instead, it appears to be centred on his decision to help Yoon stand trial without detention until the president was taken into custody for the second time in July.

The allegation is that Shim was instructed to send prosecutors to the joint investigation headquarters after Yoon's martial law declaration on Dec. 3. This instruction, if true, could potentially impact the integrity of the investigation into the failed martial law bid.

In addition, the special counsel team is investigating allegations that Shim received an order from Justice Minister Park Sung-jae. No new information has been provided about the nature of these orders or any phone talks between the two overnight from Dec. 3-4.

The name of the prosecutor being investigated in connection with the martial law declaration is not publicly disclosed. Another prosecutor from the Supreme Prosecutors Office is reportedly under investigation for being dispatched to the National Election Commission on the day of the martial law declaration.

Yoon Suk Yeol, the former President, earlier this year acknowledged that he ordered troops to the offices of the National Election Commission during his martial law declaration due to suspicions about election fraud.

The special counsel team has summoned Shim Woo-jung for questioning, which is scheduled for 10 a.m. on Sunday. The investigation is related to the failed martial law bid by former President Yoon Suk Yeol.

It is important to note that no new information is provided about the investigation related to the failed martial law bid or the allegations that Shim received an order from Justice Minister Park Sung-jae. Furthermore, the investigation does not appear to be focusing on any new allegations or evidence against Shim Woo-jung.

This development in the investigation underscores the ongoing scrutiny of the actions taken during the martial law bid and the role of key figures, including Shim Woo-jung and Justice Minister Park Sung-jae. As the investigation continues, more details are expected to emerge, shedding light on the events that transpired during that critical period.
