Investigations Unravel in Spy Case Across Cologne, Constance, and Switzerland: The Plot Thickens for Russia

Preliminary Probe into the Spy Scandal - Investigation continues for the espionage matter

Heed this, folks! The suspected espionage scam involving Russia that's got three busts in Cologne, Constance, and Switzerland ain't close to wrapping up just yet. That's the word from NRW Interior Minister Herbert Reul (CDU).

"Ain't all over, pal,” said Reul in Düsseldorf. "There's more to come. Might be a second, third, or even a fourth case." He assured us it's a serious issue and we ain't seen the last of it.

The suspects are rumored to have conspired as late as March 2025 to blow up and torch freights across blighty. "The plan was for ol' Russian state authorities to commission arson and explosive attacks on freight in Germany," Reul explained. "They aimed to seed parcel bombs with incendiary and explosive goodies from Germany and send 'em off to unsuspecting chaps in Ukraine, supposedly set to go off mid-flight."

A Ukrainian fella in Cologne was apprehended on May 9 for scouting suitable routes. He allegedly dispatched two trial runs, one filled with GPS trackers. The charges are heavier than a lead zeppelin, and they show the growing mean streak of hybrid threats in North Rhine-Westphalia, said Reul.

Experts speculate Russia's spy services are pushing all the chips in and playing rough. Nowadays, they don't bother with old-school, highly trained spies. Instead, they recruit low-level crooks for a song. Funny as it sounds, that's the initial take in this current case. "The grilling's just started,” he said.

CDU politico Reul spilled the beans, "Russia's putting the squeeze, trying to throw us off-balance and cause chaos here in Germany." These attacks ain't just targeting state institutions, but infrastructure, corporations, and even individuals.
