Investigation by Estonia's Prosecutor's Office reveals stolen funds of 450,000 euros from charitable donations given to NGO "Glory to Ukraine"
In a shocking turn of events, an ongoing investigation has revealed allegations of embezzlement at the Estonian NGO "Glory to Ukraine" (Slava Ukraini), amounting to approximately €450,000. The primary individual implicated in this case is Johanna-Maria Lehtme, the founder and manager of the NGO.
The investigation, which began in August 2022, has uncovered a series of agreements between "Glory to Ukraine" and Ukrainian company IC Construction that resulted in economic damage. These agreements, it is alleged, involved inflated prices, leading to the embezzlement of funds intended for humanitarian aid.
The total economic damage caused to "Glory to Ukraine" as a result of these agreements is currently estimated to exceed €450,000. IC Construction, it appears, caused economic damage through inflated prices for humanitarian aid, totaling €413,000.
Gennady Vaskiv, the current director of IC Construction, is accused of receiving kickbacks from these inflated prices. Vaskiv, who previously served as deputy mayor of Lviv, is also the head of the All for Victory foundation. It is important to note that the exact amount of kickbacks received by Vaskiv has not been specified in the investigation.
Johanna-Maria Lehtme is charged with abuse of trust and embezzlement in connection with these allegations. She is alleged to have entered into agreements that caused economic harm to "Glory to Ukraine". Vaskiv managed to leave the country before the suspicion of theft was brought against him.
The embezzlement case involving Johanna-Maria Lehtme and IC Construction continues to unfold, with new details emerging about the extent of the fraud. The investigation is ongoing to determine the full extent of the embezzlement and the involvement of all parties.
This case comes as a blow to the NGO "Glory to Ukraine", which has previously been praised for its aid to Ukraine. The allegations have raised questions about the transparency and accountability of the organisation, and the investigation is expected to shed further light on these matters.
