Investigating the perpetrator behind Charlie Kirk's murder case

In a shocking turn of events, the Utah County prosecutor, Jeffrey Gray, has released details about the investigation into the killing of American conservative activist Charlie Kirk. The suspect in the case is a 22-year-old named Tyler Robinson.

Robinson, coming from a Republican family in Utah but not clearly affiliated with a party, had been increasingly political in recent years. According to reports, he expressed critical views towards Kirk's far-right activism, allegedly due to frustration with Kirk's spread of 'hate,' as evidenced by text messages and political markings on shell casings found at the crime scene.

The incident took place during Kirk's outdoor event on September 10. A rifle with a scope was found in the woods nearby, wrapped in a towel, containing one spent round and three unspent rounds. The officer searching the area believed he heard a rifle shot due to its sound.

Intriguingly, Robinson's DNA was found on the gun's trigger, the shell casing, two cartridges, and the towel. Thirty-three hours after the shooting, Robinson turned himself in willingly.

The officer also found 'impressions in the gravel' consistent with a person in a prone shooting position on a roof area. Security surveillance footage showed an individual dressed in dark clothing on the roof at approximately 12:15 pm local time.

Robinson's father recognized the rifle used in the shooting as a gift he had given to his son. Robinson was worried about explaining the loss of the rifle to his father. He had several discussions with family members about his political views, particularly with his father, who holds opposing views.

In the days following the shooting, Robinson's mother recognized the shooter on the news and thought he resembled her son. Robinson asked his roommate to delete their exchange of messages. In these messages, Robinson admitted to being the shooter and expressed regret.

Robinson's mother stated that he had become more politically active and had started to lean towards the left, with a focus on gay and trans rights. His father, on the other hand, has become 'hardcore MAGA' since Trump returned to the White House.

The aftermath of the shooting saw a counter protestor holding a sign reading 'RIP Charlie Kirk' during a demonstration against US President Donald Trump's state visit near Windsor Castle in Windsor on September 16, 2025. The suspect entered campus at 11:51 am local time, wearing a black shirt with an American flag in the center, a dark baseball cap, and large sunglasses. His posture and gait were unusual, suggesting he was hiding something.

The investigation is still ongoing, and further details are expected to be released in due course.
