Tornado Speculations: DWD Inspects Damage in Ulm-Donaustetten

Investigating suspected tornado in Ulm-Danuestetten, as per DWD's probe.

No definitive proof yet, but the German Weather Service (DWD) in Offenbach is mulling over the possibility of a tornado ravaging Ulm-Donaustetten in the wee hours of Thursday. Adrian Leyser, a DWD meteorologist, hinted at the possibility, stating, "A brief tornado can't be ruled out. Only an on-site damage assessment can offer clarity. The inspection and final assessment will likely happen in the near future."2

Originally, the DWD in Stuttgart was doubtful of a tornado occurrence. "We're quite skeptical. We think it wasn't a tornado," a meteorologist shared in the morning hours.2 However, the Ulm fire department received testimony from witnesses suggesting a twister.1

News outlets reported that strong winds tore several rooftops off row houses in the Donaustetten district, making them uninhabitable. Fortunately, no injuries were reported.1[3] The German Weather Service is conducting an investigation into the event.1

The Commission has also been informed of the progress of the present investigation. The damage in Ulm-Donaustetten could have been caused by environmental-science phenomena, such as a tornado, given the science behind weather patterns and the evidence from the investigation.
