Investigating Potential Ethics Violations by David Sacks, Trump's AI and Cryptocurrency Advisor, as Per Elizabeth Warren

In a recent development, Senator Elizabeth Warren (D-MA) and several other liberal lawmakers have raised concerns about White House AI and Crypto Czar, David Sacks, potentially exceeding his 130-day limit as a temporary White House employee.

Sources familiar with the matter told Decrypt that Sacks has scrupulously used his working days to extend his tenure at the White House. This practice is reminiscent of Elon Musk, who used a similar exception to continue operating his businesses while serving as the head of the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) earlier this year.

However, there is no publicly available detailed record specifying the exact days Sacks has worked in his role since January 2021. As a Special Government Employee, Sacks has been permitted to continue working at Craft Ventures, his Silicon Valley venture firm that invests in AI and crypto companies.

The lawmakers' concerns stem from the potential news of ethics violations, especially as the Trump Administration moves to implement cryptocurrency legislation and put in place new rules for the crypto industry. The investigation by the New York Times linked the business dealings of the Trump family's crypto platform, World Liberty Financial, to a recent lucrative agreement reached between the U.S. government and the UAE regarding AI chips. Sacks reportedly played a crucial role in getting the chip deal over the finish line.

The request by Senator Warren includes details about Sacks' work locations, particularly in Silicon Valley. The letter was signed by Senators Bernie Sanders (I-VT), Chris Van Hollen (D-MD), Richard Blumenthal (D-CT), and Rashida Tlaib (D-MI). The inquiry follows a New York Times investigation linking the Trump family's crypto platform to a UAE AI chip deal that Sacks reportedly helped finalize.

The White House did not immediately respond to Decrypt's request for comment. Sacks has split his time between Silicon Valley and Washington D.C. since joining the Trump administration.

This investigation is a significant development in the ongoing scrutiny of the Trump Administration's dealings in the AI and crypto sectors. As the Administration moves forward with implementing new regulations, the role of individuals like Sacks, who straddle the line between government service and private business, will undoubtedly come under further scrutiny.
