Heavy Storms Cause State of Emergency in Krasnodar's Tuapse District

The picturesque region of Krasnodar on the Black Sea is currently facing a state of emergency due to severe flooding and storm damage caused by heavy rains and a tornado that hit the area on August 3, 2025.

The flooding has resulted in dozens of houses and streets being submerged in multiple settlements such as Defanovka, Moldavanovskoye, Novomikhaylovskoye, Lermontovo, and others. One of the most significant impacts was a bridge collapse over the Shapsukho River in Lermontovo, cutting off access for around 300 residential buildings.

The tornado caused significant destruction along the coast near Sochi, with trees downed, flooding, and emergency evacuations. As a result, hundreds of homes and adjacent territories were flooded, forcing authorities to open temporary accommodation centres for displaced residents.

The governor of the Tuapse district, Veniamin Kondratyev, has declared a state of emergency in response to the storms and resulting flooding. Emergency services, including the Russian Ministry of Emergency Situations, are actively engaged in rescue, relief, and evacuation operations, particularly focused on hazard zones such as the tourism town of Goryachy Klyuch.

Rescue teams have saved 25 people from a bus that had fallen off a bridge, and they have also been distributing water to people in the affected areas. The storms have led to flooding in the region, and the authorities are urging residents and visitors to stay cautious and follow official instructions.

The weather forecasters have warned of continuing heavy rains, thunderstorms, and strong winds through August 4, which means that floods and landslides remain a risk in the region. The emergency situation is ongoing, and travelers and residents are advised to stay informed and heed official warnings.

The popular vacation destination of Krasnodar has been hit hard by the extreme weather conditions, but the local authorities and emergency services are working tirelessly to ensure the safety of the people and to restore the damaged infrastructure as soon as possible.
