Intruding Unmanned Luggage, Clad in a Hard Shell, Stirs Police Response and Results in Train Halts on Intercity Expressways
On Friday, August 8, 2025, an unusual event unfolded on an Intercity Express train traveling from Hamburg to Munich. At approximately 10:13 AM, an unattended suitcase was discovered in the toilet area of the train.
Upon learning of the situation, officers from the Federal Police Inspection Magdeburg swiftly responded. They cordoned off the train and the surrounding platforms (8/9) at Halle (Saale) Central Station. The suitcase was later handed over to the lost and found office of the German Railway at Halle (Saale) Central Station.
The discovery of the unattended luggage led to train traffic on the affected tracks being stopped, and the Intercity Express was taken out of service. A thorough examination by a disposal team ensued, and at 11:55 AM, the black suitcase was deemed harmless.
The police intervention and necessary measures resulted in a delay of 75 minutes for three trains. Despite extensive efforts, the identity of the person who left the unaccompanied suitcase in the restroom area of the Intercity Express train remains unknown.
