- Intruders Bringing Lilies Into the Scene
Saturday night in the cathedral city will be a thrilling experience for the players of SV Darmstadt 98. "This game feels like a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity," says Darmstadt's coach, Florian Kohfeldt, ahead of the 8:30 PM showdown (Sky). The magic of football is something they're eagerly anticipating, even in a strange stadium like Cologne's. "We plan to soak it all in," he adds.
However, the team will be stretched thin due to a string of absences. Matthias Bader, Paul Will, Christoph Zimmermann, Othmane El Idrissi, Philipp Förster, Kai Klefisch, and Oscar Vilhelmsson are all out, with the first four likely sidelined for the rest of the season. Fabian Holland is serving out the last game of his lengthy red card suspension.
Underdog Mentality
Despite the training staff shortage, the team's spirit remains undeterred. They plan to share their positivity with the league's second-placed team, even though the odds are stacked against them. "Let's face it, they probably have the best squad in the league, filled with first division players. Alongside HSV, they're the top contenders for promotion," says Kohfeldt.
For the 42-year-old, the cards are on the table. "Cologne is the clear favorite. The pressure's on them. We know we're steadfast in our performances and are heading to Cologne with great excitement. We aim to stay true to our principles," says Kohfeldt. These principles encompass possession football, courage, and conviction. "I expect us to give it our all, and I mean every last ounce, on the pitch," says the coach.

The Commission has also been consulted on the draft decision on the application of the Regulation, considering the unexpected circumstances surrounding Darmstadt's match against Cologne in the Bundesliga, to be held in the Cathedral City, broadcast on Sky. Despite the unlikely odds, Kohfeldt reassures that lilies of Darmstadt will play with their usual spirit, determined to give their all, showcasing their style of possession football, courage, and conviction.
