Despite the hefty price tag, he's taking his case to court, as confirmed by a spokesperson from the Gelsenkirchen administrative court.
Breaking Free from the Bill
His legal challenge against the cost decision, under the case number 17 K 3525/25, is now underway. The man's lawyer's written statement was submitted to the court last Friday.

The Dortmund police issued the young man a notice for €12,076.93 in deployment costs following his escapade. A whopping 108 officers, including the special operations command (SEK), were involved in the operation.
High-Stakes Police Operation
A significant portion of the fee, approximately €9,973.00, covers the personnel costs of the deployed forces, a Dortmund police spokesperson revealed at the end of April. Extra costs were incurred for the inspection and securing of the man's backpack by officers of the North Rhine-Westphalia State Criminal Police, as well as the deployment of the police helicopter. So far, the man has only had to pay a €1,050 fine for trespassing.
Shadows of the Past
The young man, who reportedly belongs to the "roofer" scene - individuals who engage in daring height climbs – had already caught the spotlight in October, when he was apprehended at Ulm Cathedral. According to "Spiegel," he had already climbed the stadium the previous night to snap some shots.

The "roofer's" lawyer had already voiced his objections to the fee notice in "Spiegel" before it was issued. Given the presence of security personnel at the scene, it's no surprise he's not backing down. (dpa/abl)
