Intruder Bites Male Resident of San Rafael, Assaults His Pregnant Wife by Striking Her Head, Falls Down Staircase After Being Pushed

When intruder David Margoliash forced his way into a San Rafael household and attacked the pregnant homeowner, her husband wasn't going to let him get away with it. In a raucous confrontation, the homeowner's husband managed to disarm Margoliash and throw him off the patio, unconscious.

San Rafael police swiftly apprehended David Margoliash, a 48-year-old who's no stranger to violent crime, after a judge enhanced his bail due to the gravity of the incidents. According to the San Rafael Police Department (SRPD), Margoliash was arrested on November 30, 2024, in connection to both a residential burglary and an attempted kidnapping.

Residential Burglary and Assault

The evening's events unfolded around 1:12 a.m. in the unit block of Ross Street. SRPD responded to a distress call reporting Margoliash's break-in through the back door and assault of the household occupants. Upon entering the living room, Margoliash blindsided the pregnant woman, hitting her in the head with a flashlight. Her husband, awoken by her screams, defended their home, and in the ensuing scuffle, Margoliash tried to bite the husband's hand.

Despite the deployment of K-9 units from the Marin County Sheriff's Office and Novato Police Department, Margoliash evaded apprehension right after the burglary.

Kidnapping Attempt at a Nursing Facility

Later that morning, SRPD received another call from a nursing facility on the 1600 block of Fifth Avenue. Posing as an employee of a patient transport service, Margoliash allegedly attempted to grab an elderly patient on multiple occasions, but failed to prove his identity, thanks to diligent staff who prevented the kidnapping. Two staff members followed Margoliash after he left the facility, directing an officer to where he was detained without incident.

Charges and Background

Margoliash is now facing several felony charges, including burglary, assault with a deadly weapon, and attempted kidnapping. Words exchanged during custody link him directly to both crimes.

This isn't Margoliash's first brush with the law; he's currently awaiting sentencing for an unrelated attack at the Islamic Center of Marin earlier this year.
