With a Glass and a Camera in Hand: Highlighting Rising Talent in the Spirit World

Step into the limelight with us as we shine a spotlight on rising creators who are making a splash in the world of alcohol and spirits. From bloggers and vloggers to podcast hosts, these individuals are bringing their A-game to the booze scene, and Shayla, a 24-year-old whiskey enthusiast, is no exception. With her YouTube channel, Whisky Central, she's become a force to be reckoned with in the whiskey community 🥃.

Let's dive into Shayla's story and discover what drives her passion for all things whiskey.

From Grapes to Grains

Shayla's love affair with spirits began at a young age, working for a vineyard in Oregon and developing a keen interest in winemaking. Her curiosity piqued, she researched the path to becoming a Wine Sommelier, honing her palate through a never-ending parade of food and Pinot Noir.

A chance encounter with whiskey at her 21st birthday celebration sparked a new obsession. Intrigued by the complex flavors, Shayla found herself eager to try new whiskeys at every restaurant or bar she visited.

"Hey, why don't you start a YouTube channel about whiskey?"

A clever suggestion from her husband aimed to quell her relentless inquiries about Scotch history, propelled Shayla into the world of online whiskey content creation. Little did she know, an incredible community of WhiskeyTubers awaited her.

A World in a Glass

With no idea that WhiskeyTube even existed, Shayla dove headfirst into researching whiskey on the internet. She stumbled upon channels like Aqvavitae, The Whiskey Dictionary, The Mash and Drum, and Ralfy, who were making captivating content about whiskey to a devoted audience of tens of thousands of subscribers.

The WhiskeyTube community welcomed Shayla with open arms, embracing her in live chats and introducing her to kind, generous individuals from all over the world. From Scotland and Indonesia to Austria and Belgium, Shayla found herself making friends in unexpected places.

With a first video yielding 83 views, Shayla was amazed and since then, she's churned out almost thirty review videos. Her curiosity spans beyond Scotland's beloved Scotch, as she delves into the world of Bourbon, Rye, Irish, and other exciting global whiskeys.

Each video features the history of the distillery, Shayla's tasting experience, and her recommendations, along with suggestions for similar spirits you might enjoy.

Whiskey's Powerful Connection

For Shayla, whiskey offers far more than just a drink. It brings people together, creating a sense of purpose and connection in an increasingly divided world.

"Whiskey gives me something that I think we all search for in our lives—a sense of purpose and connection. In an ever-divisive world, whiskey is something that brings me close to a lot of people."

Shayla's channel and her subscribers have been instrumental in pushing her out of her comfort zone, moving her from behind the keyboard and into weekly live chats. The connection she feels with her viewers, reminiscent of a cozy pub gathering, is something she cherishes.

Shayla's Favorite Cocktails

While Shayla generally enjoys whiskey neat in a Glencairn, she indulges in the occasional Scotch with ginger ale and a lemon twist or an Old Fashioned or Manhattan made with Bourbon or Rye, depending on her mood.
