Introduced in India: Triumph Thrust 400 Cafe Race Bike, retailing for ₹2.74 lakh
The Triumph Thruxton 400 has undergone a significant redesign, offering a blend of styling, mechanical, and ergonomic updates compared to its predecessors and the Speed 400.
Key features of the redesign include a distinctive cafe racer styling, characterized by a semi-fairing integrated around a round LED headlamp, a teardrop-shaped fuel tank, and redesigned side panels for a retro-modern look. The reprofiled wider seat promotes a more forward-leaning, aggressive riding position, aided by clip-on handlebars and repositioned footpegs.
The Thruxton 400 also boasts a modified rear subframe with a slimmer rear fender and a new LED tail light design, supporting the single-seat cowl, enhancing the classic cafe racer silhouette.
Chassis and suspension adjustments have been made, with the front suspension using black-coated USD forks with 135 mm travel, 10 mm more than the Speed 400, and a preload-adjustable monoshock with 130 mm travel at the rear. The wheelbase is slightly longer at 1,376 mm, and the ground clearance is 158 mm.
Mechanically, the Thruxton 400 is powered by a 398 cc liquid-cooled TR-Series engine, which has been revised with a new camshaft, delivering approximately 41.4-41.5 bhp at 9,000 rpm and 37.5 Nm torque at 7,500 rpm, tuned for higher-rev riding. The bike weighs around 183 kg, slightly heavier than the Speed 400.
Safety and tech features include dual-channel ABS, switchable traction control, ride-by-wire throttle, a USB-C charging port, fully LED lighting, and a hybrid analog-LCD instrument cluster that balances classic and modern styling elements.
The new Thruxton 400 is available in four dual-tone color options: Red, Yellow, Grey, and Black. The bike features 17-inch alloy wheels and has a rear cowl covering the pillion seat, which can be removed. The fuel tank has been re-sculpted for a sharper look.
The Thruxton 400 produces 41.4 bhp, an increase from the Speed 400. The new model is the first to be launched in India, with a global rollout scheduled for later this year. Pricing information was not provided in the excerpt.
This redesign offers a more focused cafe racer aesthetic and sporty ergonomics along with mechanical tweaks to performance and handling, differentiating the Thruxton 400 strongly from earlier iterations and its closest family models.
