Interviewer Piers Morgan accused of ambush tactics against Joy Reid in their latest conversation
In a recent conflict, former MSNBC host Joy Reid has accused British television personality Piers Morgan of ambushing her during an interview, focusing on racial topics and her controversial blog posts. The interview, which aired on Morgan's show, saw the pair clash over Reid's claims that she was fired from MSNBC due to her race.
Joy Reid initially agreed to the interview based on an email from Morgan promising a "free-flowing conversation" on various topics such as the Trump administration and her departure from MSNBC. However, Reid felt the interview turned into a 45-minute ambush, with Morgan focusing heavily on race and questioning why Black people like her discuss race so much, especially regarding Donald Trump.
Reid described Morgan as a "rabid, thirsty little troll desperate for attention" who obsessively brings up race in a dismissive and confrontational way. She was particularly upset when Morgan confronted her about a controversy involving homophobic posts from her old blog that resurfaced in 2018. Reid felt blindsided by these questions and suggested Morgan's interview purpose was to target her with these accusations.
Reid has since apologised for the controversial blog posts in 2017, but later admitted she had no evidence that hackers placed the offending remarks on her old blog. She refused to admit to writing those specific posts.
Nina Turner, a guest on Joy Reid's podcast, also labelled the interview with Piers Morgan as a "set up" and a "jump on a Black woman." The incident has sparked discussions about race, media narratives, and personal accountability in political and cultural commentary.
Piers Morgan's representatives have referred to his social media comments regarding the controversy, in which he responded to Reid's claims by stating that the interview did not go well for her. Morgan plans to address the controversy on his upcoming show.
