Interview with Christian Capello-Colon, the Senior Editor
Christian Capello-Colon, a name that's been making waves in the film industry, draws inspiration from the golden age of cinema – the 70's and 80's – while editing his work. This creative approach, coupled with his dedication and hard work, has helped him carve out a successful career.
Born and raised in Brooklyn, NY, Capello-Colon's journey in the film industry began with making films with friends in his hometown. After completing his education, he interned at various production companies in New York City. His hard work and dedication paid off when he landed a job on a small outdoor TV series.
Capello-Colon's big break came when he joined Trailer Park, where he started as a PA/Runner. He worked his way up, eventually becoming a key figure in the company. His most notable work to date is the campaign for the film Baby Driver, for which he received wide acclaim.
When faced with creative burnout, Capello-Colon tries an unconventional approach. He creates what he calls a "clutter buster" spot, a shot in the dark that often sparks new ideas. His go-to tool for this process is the Boris FX plugin, Sapphire, which he relies on heavily inside Adobe Premiere Pro and Avid.
Capello-Colon's love for films is evident in his favourite titles, which include classics like Evil Dead 2, Jaws, Back to the Future, and modern masterpieces such as No Country for Old Men, Heat, and The Shining. When he's not working, he enjoys walking in the woods for thinking and conceptualizing, or relaxing with a good cup of coffee and his favourite TV series, such as The Simpsons, The Office, True Detective, Twin Peaks, Survivorman, and many more.
In his own words, Capello-Colon advises his younger self to work hard and stay humble. He is open to collaborating again with director Edgar Wright, with whom he worked on Baby Driver. As he continues to make his mark in the industry, Capello-Colon remains committed to his craft, relying on his favourite keyboard shortcuts – Command+S (save) and Command+Z (undo) – to navigate the challenges that come his way.
