Interview of Comedy Writer Jack Rooke, Consisting of Ten Inquiries
In the world of British comedy, Jack Rooke has made a significant impact with his BAFTA award-winning work and the critically acclaimed series Big Boys. Currently, Series 1 and 2 of Big Boys are available to stream on Hulu in the US, offering a humorous yet poignant look into the life of a young, queer man. The final series of Big Boys is set to premiere on Channel 4 from Sunday. As executive producer of Big Boys from its beginning, Rooke has poured his heart and soul into the project, working on it for over two years. The series, based on his personal experiences, has resonated with audiences, earning it a dedicated fanbase. Rooke's next project promises a departure from his previous works, but specific details about the project and its distinctions are yet to be revealed. One thing is certain, Rooke is excited about the prospect of starting a new creative journey, despite feeling a bit terrified about never finding the same level of creative happiness again. Away from the spotlight, Rooke leads a relatively ordinary life. He values comfort and practicality, preferring a hotel that is super comfy, relatively affordable, and allows for easy exploration. His favourite hotel experiences have been at The Sea Containers London and a boutique place in Paris called Les Artistes. Among his prized possessions, Rooke values his mother's happiness above all else. He bought her a fridge, which she treasures more than his BAFTA trophy. Rooke's mother's fridge isn't the only unique item in his collection. He considers The Sea by Corinne Bailey Rae as his most favourite piece of art about grief and love. The album's poignant lyrics and melodies have touched Rooke deeply, so much so that he named the last episode of the new season of Big Boys after the album. Throughout his career, Rooke has received advice from many, but one piece of wisdom that has stuck with him came from Dolly Alderton, a fellow writer. After all the hard work put into something, Alderton advised him that it is 'just telly.' As Rooke embarks on his next project, he wears 100% Adidas, a choice that makes him feel his best. Despite the unknowns, one thing is certain - Rooke will continue to create comedy that is raw, honest, and relatable, touching the hearts of audiences everywhere.
