Interview audio of Biden discloses the individual who initiated discussion about Beau's demise; surprisingly, not Hur.
Fiery Responses to Leaked Biden-Hur Audio
Radio host and RealClearPolitics co-founder Tom Bevan chats with 'Fox & Friends Weekend' about the newly public Biden-Hur audio and the furor it's causing among former administration officials, who claim they were unaware of the president's memory issues.
Old Man Biden rages against Special Counsel Robert Hur as Hur calls him a "sympathetic, well-meaning, elderly man with a poor memory." The part of Hur's report that sent Biden shooting off was the accusation that he couldn't remember when his son, Beau, passed away. However, freshly acquired audio snagged by Axios offers a clear picture of Joe's senior moments.
In February 2024, Biden and other high-profile Democrats, not to mention media pundits, tore into Hur. During a press conference, Biden sputtered, "There's some attention paid to some language in the report about my recollection of events. There's even a reference that I don't remember when my son died. How in the blue blazes would he dare say that?"

Then-Vice President Kamala Harris blasted Hur in February 2024, declaring his report to be "gratuitous, inaccurate, and downright disrespectful." Harris also insinuated that it was "obviously politically motivated." Harris pointed out Biden's supposed sharpness at the time, noting that Hur's interview took place on Oct. 8, 2023 - just one day after Hamas' invasion of Israel. Harris boasted that she was "in almost every meeting" with Biden and that he was "clubbing seals" at the time.
Reps. Jerry Nadler, D-N.Y., and Pramila Jayapal, D-Wash., grilled Hur when he testified on Capitol Hill in March 2024. Both lawmakers attempted to trap Hur into saying that his report "whitewashed" Biden - to which he kept mum. Former Rep. Adam Schiff, D-Calif., also lambasted the special counsel, alleging that Hur knew his portrayal of Biden would spark a political inferno, something Hur denied.

Former Obama advisor David Axelrod also lambasted the report, calling it a "dagger the special counsel stuck into the Biden reelection campaign," according to CNN.
On Friday, Axios published a blockbuster story containing audio clips from Biden's interview with Hur, which the previous administration refused to release. The audio shows Biden repeatedly stumbling over major dates, including when President Donald Trump was first elected, his son's demise, or when he vacated the vice presidency.

Since the report's release, Hur has experienced two key moments of validation apart from Friday's leak. The first came when the transcript of his interview was published in March 2024. At the time, the White House refused to release the audio, raising concerns about AI deepfakes. Hur seemed to get further validation when Biden suffered a disastrous debate against Trump in June 2024. Less than a month after the debate, Biden dropped out of the 2024 presidential race and backed Harris.
