Interpol teases new album and 2025 tour with stand-in drummer
Interpol have announced plans for new music and an upcoming tour, despite ongoing health struggles for drummer Sam Fogarino. The band confirmed that their first studio album since 2022's The Other Side of Make-Believe is in the works, with Fogarino contributing as both a co-writer and performer.
The tour, however, will feature a temporary replacement behind the kit.
Fogarino remains unable to perform live due to health issues, prompting the band to bring in Urian Hackney for their 2025 dates. Hackney, a versatile drummer, has previously worked with acts like Rough Francis, The Armed, and Iggy Pop. His experience across punk, noise rock, and post-punk makes him a strong fit for Interpol's sound.
The tour kicks off in Miami on March 7, 2025. While no official title for the new album has been revealed, the band has teased its arrival as 'coming soon'. Fogarino's involvement in the recording process suggests the material will retain the group's signature intensity, even if he won't be playing it live for now.
Interpol last released The Other Side of Make-Believe in July 2022. Since then, fans have waited for follow-up news, which the band now confirms is nearing completion.
Interpol's upcoming album marks their first new release in nearly three years. With Hackney stepping in for live shows, the band can move forward with their tour while Fogarino focuses on recovery. The new music, when released, will be the first since their 2022 record—and the first to feature Fogarino's contributions since his health setback.
