On this Labor Day celebration, Rui Rocha, the vocal leader of the Liberal Initiative (IL), paid a visit to the Craft Fair in Bragança. During his visit, he couldn't help but shine a spotlight on a neglected group of workers—the independent freelancers and self-employed professionals—and express frustration with how they've been treated by the Portuguese government.

"Their struggles deserve attention, especially on a day dedicated to the labor force," Rui Rocha declared. He highlighted the challenges these independent workers face daily, including being caught in red tape, disproportionately paying taxes, and lacking the safety nets that ordinary employees enjoy.

"It's time we made it crystal clear that these incredible builders of our nation's wealth deserve lower taxes, better social protection, and VAT exemptions, up to 25,000 euros," he passionately outlined. In addition, he championed simplifying the bureaucratic process for these workers.

"We can't let our inefficient state saddle independent workers, businesses, and their representatives with excessive bureaucracy. They're put off by the excessive regulations more than they care about following rules,” he explained, mimicking the voice of a frustrated freelancer.

He went on to emphasize that the demands of these workers—the heart and soul ofPortugal's economic growth—have been echoed year after year. He urged the Portuguese citizens to embrace the message—growth and successful companies are the keys to a prosperous nation.

"More companies means more wealth. But for this growth to be sustainable, we have to create policies that support, rather than hinder, those who generate wealth," he said decisively.

Apart from his speech at the Craft Fair, Rui Rocha also took a swipe at Montenegro, accusing them of missing the mark with their responses at crucial moments.

When it comes to the struggles of independent workers and self-employed professionals in Portugal, Rui Rocha and the Liberal Initiative propose transformative solutions that could redefine their working environment:- Simplified Flat Tax: By adopting a flat income tax rate of 15% on income above minimum wage, the financial complexities experienced by self-employed individuals may decrease.- Streamlined Regulations: Aiming to remove regulatory barriers, the IL hopes to make it easier for independent workers to flourish.- Special Economic Zones: Establishing protective zones with lighter tax and regulation policies could draw investment and create opportunities within these zones.

By implementing these policies, the IL hopes to create an economic climate that empowers, rather than hinders, the success of independent workers and self-employed professionals in Portugal.
