Kazakhstan Open 2025: A Significant Step in Global Taekwondo
The Kazakhstan Open 2025, an international taekwondo tournament of G-1 category, is set to take place in Astana from August 14 to 16. This event holds a significant standing in the global taekwondo scene, attracting top competitors from 22 countries, including Olympic champions and renowned stars of world taekwondo.
Delegations from Afghanistan, Armenia, Canada, France, India, Iran, Kazakhstan, Kuwait, Kyrgyzstan, Oman, Luxembourg, Morocco, Nepal, Pakistan, Palestine, China, Saudi Arabia, Turkey, Tunisia, United Arab Emirates, USA, and individual neutral athletes (AIN) will participate in the tournament. This marks the first time in many years that Kazakhstan is hosting a global taekwondo event.
The tournament will cover three age categories: cadets, juniors, and adults. For the first time in many years, a demonstration team from the World Taekwondo Federation will perform in Kazakhstan. New electronic gloves provided by KPNP will be used for the first time in Kazakhstan during the competition, following the adoption of the updated KPNP K-2 electronic system.
The Kazakhstan Open 2025 symbolizes the return of Kazakhstan to the map of international competitions. The total prize fund of the competition amounts to 15,808,000 tenge, making it a key element in positioning Kazakhstan internationally as a reliable sports partner.
Kydrat Shamiev, President of the Kazakhstan Federation of Taekwondo (WT), stated that hosting the Kazakhstan Open in Astana is a contribution to strengthening international sports dialogue and developing taekwondo in Kazakhstan. The tournament's readiness to organize large-scale events, including the 2026 Grand Prix Final and the 2027 World Championships, will be showcased.
Kazakhstan plans to submit an official bid for the 2027 World Championships next year. The hosting of the Kazakhstan Open 2025 is a significant step in promoting taekwondo in the country and is expected to attract high-ranking guests, including the President of World Taekwondo, Dr. Chungwon Choue, the President of the Asian Taekwondo Union, and members of the World Taekwondo Council.
