International Soccer Tournament Continues: Weber Fails to Win a Medal Due to Infection
In the rainy conditions of the Athletics World Championships in Tokyo, German javelin thrower Julian Weber once again came close to winning a medal but ultimately fell short.
Weber, who finished fourth at the Olympic Games in Tokyo last year, made a bold statement after qualifying for the final, saying "There's much more in me for the final." However, his performance on the day did not match his expectations.
From the start, Weber struggled with his throws, and despite his best effort, he could only manage a distance of 85.57 meters. This was significantly shorter than his best throw this year, which is further than Keshorn Walcott's winning throw of 88.16 meters at the same event.
Walcott, from Trinidad and Tobago, took the top spot in the competition, with Anderson Peters from Grenada finishing second. Curtis Thompson from the USA rounded out the podium in third place.
Meanwhile, in the triple jump competition, Leyanis Pérez Hernández from Cuba won with a distance of 14.94 meters. French athlete Caroline Joyeux finished 10th in her World Championship final debut, falling short of her personal best and qualification distance by a combined 64 centimeters.
In the high jump, both Christina Honsel (28) and Imke Onnen (31) qualified for the final. Honsel, who has a chance to win an Olympic medal, will be hoping to improve on her sixth-place finish at last year's Paris event. Onnen, who has been coached by Burkhard Looks for the past three years, will be aiming to build on her recent form after qualifying for the final.
Weber's coach, Burkhard Looks, advised him to relax, sit down, and focus on involving his legs, but his advice did not help. Weber was also weakened by a recent illness, which may have affected his performance.
Despite not winning a medal at global events, Weber has had an impressive career, including a win at the European Championship title in Munich three years ago. He will be hoping to bounce back from this disappointing result and continue to push himself to new heights in the future.
