International pressure has no impact on Israel's disregard for agreements, according to Lebanon's Deputy Prime Minister.
In the wake of continued Israeli attacks, Lebanon is aggressively mobilizing its diplomatic and political resources to secure a ceasefire, withdraw Israeli forces from occupied territories, and ensure the safe return of prisoners.
Lebanese Deputy Prime Minister Tarek Mitri has accused Israel of violating the Nov. 27, 2024, ceasefire agreement, demanding an immediate end to these violations and respect for Lebanese sovereignty. He has also called on Israel to abide by UN resolutions and engage in fair negotiations for regional peace and stability.
Mitri has emphasized Turkey's support for Lebanon's sovereignty against Israeli attacks, praising Turkey as a long-standing friend of Lebanon. He has discussed military cooperation with Turkey, highlighting the upcoming conference as an opportunity to strengthen this support for the Lebanese army.
Relations between Lebanon and Syria are also strong, according to Mitri, with mutual delegation visits and defense minister contacts addressing border security issues. He has recalled Turkey's support for Lebanon during the 2006 war with Israel and the facilities provided to Lebanese and Syrians before 2011.
The Lebanese army has presented a plan to the Cabinet, which was welcomed by the government. The army is now set to implement this plan, with monthly reports on its progress to be provided.
Mitri has denied allegations that Lebanon refuses to return an estimated 2,500 Syrian prisoners, emphasizing that the issue must be resolved within a legal framework. He has noted that bilateral agreements signed in the past are being reassessed, with some potentially preserved, others modified, or abolished.
The Lebanese government adheres to the Taif Agreement, which extends state authority and sovereignty over all territories. Mitri has confirmed complete consensus among Lebanese authorities on bringing weapons under state control.
In a separate development, a magnitude 7.8 earthquake has occurred in remote Pacific waters, triggering a tsunami warning.
Mitri has also mentioned an upcoming conference to support the Lebanese army, stating Turkey's participation alongside other countries would be natural. He recently met with Turkey's Deputy Foreign Minister and Turkey's Ambassador to Lebanon visited him.
The Lebanese government remains committed to maintaining peace and stability in the region, working closely with its allies to achieve these goals.
