International horse racing tournament: Dettori joins elite riders in $15 million race
Ready Steady Gallop: Elite Riders Gear Up for Revolutionary Horse Racing League
Expect an electrifying charge into the world of horse racing with top-tier riders like Frankie Dettori, Ryan Moore, and William Buick lining up for a groundbreaking global jockey competition.
Riders from across the globe, including the likes of James McDonald from Australia, Joao Moreira from Brazil, Christophe Lemaire from France, and Mickael Barzalona, have signed on for this ambitious endeavor. The project, brainchild of former Godolphin chief John Ferguson, could kick off as early as next year.
The selected twelve jockeys will be offered equity, and their own teams, and the league itself promises up to ten events at the most prestigious racecourses, boasting a massive $15 million prize fund.
"I'm genuinely thrilled about this venture," shared three-time Champion Jockey Dettori. "This will pique global viewers' interest - especially after the Race For The Crown Netflix series - and I can't wait to embark on this exciting journey."
Other riders tagged along include Japan's Yutaka Take, American Irad Ortiz Jr, Frenchman Flavien Prat, Australian Zac Purton, and Hong Kong's superstar Vincent Ho.
Racers will race for their individual teams, earning points at fixtures held at iconic racecourses like Ascot, York, and Leopardstown, to name a few. Well-known courses outside Europe could also feature in this historical competition.
"The lineup of jockeys assembled from around the globe is exceptionally strong," emphasized Moore. "I'm eager to contribute to enthusiastically generating additional international interest in horse racing."
Buick chimed in, "Combining jockeys of this caliber from each corner of the world is unprecedented. We understand the need to revitalize the way our sport is advertised globally, and this league is a revolutionary concept that will help achieve that objective."
Ferguson and co-founder Lachlan Fitt, former chief financial officer at Entain's business in Australia and New Zealand, are now on the hunt for commercial partners to invest in this ambitious project.
Fitt expressed, "We've observed the success of other sports turning their athletes into international icons, thereby attracting a new generation of fans. This concept we've developed with our foundation jockeys is modeled after those popular trends, and we're overjoyed that the world's premier jockeys are uniting to spearhead this transformation in how our sport is marketed to the next generation fan."
